Town Hall Meeting on Public Safety Auditor Thursday, June 21st, 7:00 PM UNO Alumni Center Richard Rosenthal, Independent Monitor for the City and County of Denver, will discuss his experiences with one of the nation's largest mediation programs at a Town Hall Meeting at 7 P.M., June 21, 2007 at the University of Omaha Alumni Center, 68th and Dodge Streets. Richard Rosenthal's PowerPoint Presentation The event will be sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Greater Omaha and the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Its purpose will be to provide information so Omahans can make an informed decision regarding oversight programs. Omaha's ongoing dialogue concerning the position of a Public Safety Auditor has generated much debate. Rosenthal will provide information gleaned from being a Public Safety Auditor in Portland Oregon and as an Independent Monitor in Denver. He will discuss the benefits of working with the police department and the tools and attributes for an auditor to be effective in a city the size of Omaha. An Omaha perspective will follow by Aaron Hansen, President of the Omaha Police Union, and Tommie Wilson, Executive Director of the NAACP. Questions will be generated from the audience. Four forums will be held across the city during the six weeks following the Town Hall Meeting. Dates and locations to be announced.
