RUNNING AND WINNING WORKSHOP

Thursday, October 11, 2007

UNO Alumni Center

We are very excited to be bringing Running and Winning back to Omaha! Running and Winning is a workshop for high school girls that brings the girls together with current and former female elected officials for networking and mentoring. The purpose of the workshop is to encourage girls to consider running for office or helping with a campaign sometime in their future.

This year, girls from Bellevue East, Millard South, and Omaha South high schools will participate in Running and Winning. The girls will be chosen by their teachers for their leadership potential and their interest in civics, government, and/or politics.

The girls will visit with current and former elected officials from Douglas and Sarpy Counties. The officials will talk about their experiences in elective office, and will offer advice and encouragement to the girls.

The girls will also work on a mock campaign centered around the question, “Should minors who are convicted of possessing alcohol lose their drivers’ licenses?” The girls will work in groups to develop a campaign slogan, poster, and speech.

Running and Winning is free for all participants. Running and Winning is subsidized by the Women’s Fund of Greater Omaha and the League of Women Voters Educational Fund.
