Maurice Brown is being charged with possession of a gun by a prohibited person, using a gun to commit a crime and attempted assault in the first degree.
Brown was arrested on suspicion of seven counts of using a gun to commit a crime, six counts of second-degree assault, as well as one count of possession of a gun by a prohibited person and attempted assault in the first degree, the Omaha Police Department said in a press release Monday.
The Douglas County Attorney’s Office could not be immediately reached to explain why only three charges have been filed in the case.
The shooting happened around 4:20 a.m. in the parking lot of Kelly’s Liquor near North 30th Street and Bedford Avenue, police said. Nearby police officers heard the shots and arrived to find a large crowd leaving Kelly’s Liquor. ShotSpotter also picked up the gunshots. Multiple spent casings were found in the parking lot.
Brown was injured in the shooting. He arrived at Immanuel Medical Center by private vehicle and was treated at the hospital. Three other men — a 22-year-old, a 38-year-old and a 21-year-old — were also treated at Immanuel.
A 26-year-old man was also injured in the shooting. He had been shot while fleeing from the scene in his vehicle. Because of his injuries, the man lost control of the vehicle and crashed near North 36th Avenue and Lothrop Street.
A 43-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were treated for their injuries at Creighton University Medical Center-University Campus.
None of the injuries were considered life threatening.
Brown must pay $50,000 — 10% — in order to be released from custody. His next scheduled court appearance is a preliminary hearing Sept. 10.
