Maurice Brown has been arrested on suspicion of multiple counts of using a gun to commit a crime and second-degree assault, as well as one count of possession of a gun by a prohibited person and attempted assault in the first degree, the Omaha Police Department said in a press release Monday.
The shooting happened around 4:20 a.m. in the parking lot of Kelly’s Liquor near North 30th Street and Bedford Avenue, police said. Nearby police officers heard the shots and arrived to find a large crowd leaving Kelly’s Liquor. ShotSpotter also picked up the gunshots. Multiple spent casings were found in the parking lot.
Brown was injured in the shooting. He arrived at Immanuel Medical Center by private vehicle and was treated at the hospital. Three other men — a 22-year-old, a 38-year-old and a 21-year-old — were also treated at Immanuel.
A 26-year-old man was also injured in the shooting. He had been shot while fleeing the scene in his vehicle. Because of his injuries, the man lost control of the vehicle and crashed near North 36th Avenue and Lothrop Street.
A 43-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were treated for their injuries at Creighton University Medical Center-University Campus.
None of the injuries were considered life-threatening. Police continue to investigate the incident.
